Dates: Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th September 2014
Pelican Park will once again don a spectacle of colourful kites of all shapes and sizes and a massive program of entertainment for the 2014 Redcliffe KiteFest.
Now in its 18th year, the Redcliffe KiteFest will become the highlight event of the weekend-long Redcliffe Festival. Held Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 September, over 40,000 visitors are expected to revel in a weekend of international kite displays, two stages of live entertainment, cooking demonstrations, hundreds of speciality arts and craft markets, aerobatic displays, kite-making workshops, amusement rides plus a number of new additions to the 2014 program.
Festival organisers are excited to announce two very special guests that will be joining the Redcliffe KiteFest line-up this year explains Event Manager Melissa Gooderham. “KiteFest Kitchen is back again in 2014 and we are excited to have celebrity chef Alastair McLeod cook up some culinary delights in front of live audiences daily over the weekend, alongside some of Redcliffe’s best local chefs,’ Mrs Gooderham said.
The Sesame Lane KiteFest Kidz Zone is a new addition this year and will be the perfect space for families with young children under the age of eight.
“For the youngest festival goers, we have a free Bubs Hub fully equipped with baby feeding and change areas plus bottle heating and equipment,” Mrs Gooderham explained.
The Kidz Zone will also host a bunch of free children rides and activities, a petting zoo as well as information and dedicated kid’s market stalls.
“This year we have really expanded on the family-friendly activities, as well as focused on providing some quality entertainment including two stages of live music and performances daily,” Mrs Gooderham said.
Local musicians and performance groups will perform on the Main Stage and Beach Stage each day, including the hugely popular Running in the Shadows – Fleetwood Mac tribute band on Sunday afternoon.
“Visitors will be able to kick back, relax and listen to all their favourite Fleetwood Mac hits with the Running in the Shadows – the Australian Fleetwood Mac Tribute Show on the KiteFets Main Stage Sunday afternoon from 2.45pm,” Mrs Gooderham explained.
Day passes to the Redcliffe KiteFest are available at the gate over the Redcliffe KiteFest weekend for $8.00 per adult, $5.00 per child & concession (16 years and under) and a discounted family pass is $20.00 (includes entry for 2 adults and 2 children).
Shuttle bus and satellite parking will be available throughout the Redcliffe Peninsula including Dalton Park, Frawley Fields and the Redcliffe Showgrounds. There will also be a free shuttle bus running regularly from the Sandgate Train Station.
The Redcliffe KiteFest is a component of the brand new Redcliffe Festival that will be held on the 5th, 6th and 7th of September, boasting a weekend program of free and ticketed events and concerts, across multiple sites throughout the Peninsula.
